Patients with articular troubles started to be treated in the Spa of Velichovky in 1898. The demesne of Velichovky was originally owned by two sisters - baronesses Berta Bess Chrostin and Gabriela Spens Boden.
At the end of the 19th century, the local muddy earth was regularly purchased by Dr. Kutík from Hořičky who prepared mud procedures from it to treat articular and bone diseases in his sanatorium. Dr. Kutík along with his friend earl Harrach persuaded the baronesses and established a joint-stock company that launched the construction of the spa in 1887.
The Spa of Velichovky was first owned by the Central Health Insurance Company (after 1918). In the period from 1924 to 1926, a new treatment building "the Masaryk House" was built. The same year the spa was visited by the president of Czechoslovakia T. G. Masaryk. In honour of the president, the new building was named "the Masaryk House".
After the end of World War Two, the spa returned to its original purpose as a medical facility of the Health Insurance Company. During World War Two, the Spa of Velichovky was found as a refugee by the German Nazi marshal Ferdinand Schörner and his numerous group of soldiers. On May 8, 1945 an armed mission of the 16th Armored Division commanded by lieutenant colonel Robert H. Pratt set out from Hradec Králové on the journey to Velichovky via Hořice. The mission arrived in Velichovky after 9:00 a.m. On the occasion of the liberation of Czechoslovakia, the WW II Vehicle Club in cooperation with the Spa of Velichovky joint-stock company organizes commemoration drives of historical vehicles named "MISE VELICHOVKY" every 8th May.
