The river rises in Šumava. Otava is passable all the year. The difficulty is marked ZW ? WW III. The upper stream is recommended for advanced water sportsmen, the middle stream and the down river is suitable also for the recreation water sportsmen.
The voyage downstream the river takes 5 ? 6 days.
The river?s stream is 112 km long.
