The monumental Neo-Renaissance building of the National museum was built between the years 1885-1890 (Arch. J. Schulz). The facade was modelled after the Louvre in Paris. The museum - seal of the most important scientific and cultural institution of the Czech national revival, was founded here in the year 1818 and soon became a national institution. The museum?s collection includes prehistoric collection of mammoth skeletons and other expositions of geological, mineralogical, zoological exhibits. There are also archaeological and numismatic collections here. The famous sculpture of St. Wenceslav riding a horse is situated in the foreground of the Museum.
