The Jemniště Castle was built in 1723 by František Adam of Trauttmansdorf. Maxmilián Kaňka was invited as a master-builder and the most famous Czech Baroque representatives, such as Felix Antonín Scheffler, Matyáš Bernard Braun, Václav Vavřinec Reiner and others, had taken part in the interior design. Jindřich Rottenhan became the next owner of the castle. During 19th century, there were many owners of Jemniště. In 1868, the castle was bought by Zdeněk of Sternberg. He bequeathed it to his son Filip. Filip had three children. His oldest son inherited the Český Šternberk Castle and two younger daughters, Gabriela and Terezie, together inherited the Jemniště Castle.
In 1943, the castle was confiscated by the Nazi government and was given to Oskar Daněk von Esse. In 1945, the castle was occupied by the Red Army. Terezie laid a restitution claim, this claim was acknowledged, but Terezie never moved back because the castle was nationalised in 1951 by the communist regime. In 1992, Jan Bosko Sternberg laid a claim for the return of the real property and this claim was satisfied. Jiří Sternberg is a present owner of the castle.
