According to a legend, in 1032 Prokop the Hermit met Prince Oldřich at the place where the monastery was built. The hermit offered the prince water in a wooden cup. The water then transmuted into wine. To demonstrate his gratitude for this miracle the prince helped Prokop to found the monastery. The place became a flourishing center of Slavic culture and liturgy. During the sightseeing tour the visitors recall the period of the Great Moravia and of the beginnings of the Czech State. The tour includes also a baroque refectory and capitular hall with mural pain-tings from the 14th century as well as the baroque church dedicated to St. Prokop. The church is also a place of regular Sunday divine service for all seeking consolation and divine support. Your spiritual perceptions can peter out in the northern garden of the monastery where you can find uncovered foundations of the Holly Cross Church from the 11th century. Its disposition called 'tetrakoncha' is quite unusual for the Czech Lands and suggests east European influence. In the 19th century the owner of the Sázava estate had the monastery buildings rebuilt into a castle. The constructional changes, however, where not too extensive.
