Castle Zvíkov (Písecko)

The royal castle was founded on a high bank over junction of the Otava and Moldau rivers in the 13th century. Today it is washed by the waters of Orlická Dam. The castle is quite unique for its thirty meters' rotund tower with a sharp wedge. Its palace with arcade courtyard is a remarkable work of Gothic, as well as the Bulb Tower and its chapel with murals. The castle was inhabited until 1622, later it was used only for farming purposes and dilapidated. House Schwarzenberg is responsible for its later restoration in the 19th century.
