The ZOO is located close to the town centre near the Kamencové Lake. The park is extensive; however walking trough the slightly wavy terrain with wooded slopes, grassy paddocks and large water reservoirs is comfortable and pleasant. ZOO was established in the year 1975, its area is 110 ha.

The ZOO was the first in the Czech Republic, which succeeded in nursing brood of white pelicans. Among main breeding activities is breeding of golden-eyes and barn owls. The ZOO has a significant merit in preservation of the genetic resources of golden-eyes by their re-introduction into Czech nature.

The most significant species are: golden-eyes, rock ibis, peregrine flacon, black stork, sea eagle, seal and wolverine. Rarity is the Euro-safari, which extends on the area of 30 hectares. It is specialized in European and Asian fauna. Seeing can be realized on a horse cart. The most interesting species are wolverines, buffalos, elks, donkey kiang etc.
