The Gothic castle was built in the 13th century by the king Přemysl Otakar II. The castle was also a residence of the king Jiří of Poděbrady. The castle was rebuilt in Renaissance style during the reign of the emperor Ferdinand II and later in the 18th century it was adapted again in a Baroque style. In the chapel there are preserved Gothic wall paintings. The castle exhibition shows the life of Jiří of Poděbrady and one of the rooms is said to be his birthplace.
