The Opočno castle was built in the renaissance style between 1560-69 in the times of Vilém Trčka on the place of a former gothic castle and rebuilt in the baroque style according to the architect G. B. Alliprandi after a fire at the end of the 17th century. From 1635 to 1945 the castle was a property of the family Colloredo-Mansfeld. They established the picture gallery and the rich collection of weapons from the 16th to 19th century. In 1820 there was added on it a balcony on corbels, a hipped roof with dormer-windows, new built a riding-school and the summerhouse rebuilt in the Empire style. Today we can admire a characteristic castle yard surrounded by three wings of the three store palace with arcades - all painted white, terrace gardens, summerhouse, riding school, orangeria and English park.
