The castle was founded by the family of Drslavic at the end of the 13th century during the colonization of the region. Since 1371, the castle was in hands of the lords of Kunštát and Poděbrady. George of Poděbrady inherited the Litice estate in 1427 and launched an extensive reconstruction of the castle site. At that time, the Litice castle belonged to major fortified castles in the country. After the death of George of Poděbrady the Litice estate was sold to William of Pernštejn who joined the estate to the near-by Potštejn. The castle was loosing its importance gradually and fell into disrepair. It was fully ruined when in possession of the lords of Bubno around the year 1562. In 1815 the Litice castle was purchased by Jan Parish. In the late 19th century and in the early 20th century the ruin of the castle was conserved and partly reconstructed in the 30s of the 20th century.
