Říp is the best-known Czech mountain. According to the legend the primal father Čech (Czech) brought his folk to Říp and settled here thanks to the fertile land. The top of this basalt bell-shaped mountain was probably the cult place in the earliest times, as show the ceramic findings from the primeval and medieval times. On the top has been situated the Romanesque Rotunda of St. George, dated from the 11th century. Říp has been the place of famous pilgrimages and folk gatherings in the important moments of the Czech history.
One of the most beautiful views of the Czech Central Hillside (České středohoří), Krušné hory opens from the top of Říp. During good weather even Prague is visible.
