The Gothic castle was founded to defend the passage between Bohemia and Lusatia in the middle of the 13th century. In the 16th century it was reconstructed to a Renaissance form. Following the fire of 1843, the castle was uninhabited, it served as a summerhouse of Clam-Gallas family for a time; currently it houses among others the seat of veterinary unit of the Army of the CR. Events held at the castle frequently include demonstrations of dog training.
