A picturesque Renaissance castle in Zahrádky was built in the 16th century by Jan of Vartenberg. Later it belonged to several aristocratic families - the most known were the Waldsteins, the Kaunitzs and the Liechtensteins. The castle was adapted at the beginning of the 20th century. After 1945 the castle became property of the Czechoslovak Republic and it served Charles Universitiy as the education center for foreign students.
