The original Gothic stronghold was rebuilt in Renaissance style by the Emperor Francis I. in the 16th century. The castle was also favourite site of the Emperor Rudolph II. During the Thirty Years War it had been strongly damaged and was reconstructed only at the beginning of the 18th century. The castle has beautiful figural graffiti with hunting motives and with the portrait of Rudolph II.
