Radyně is a remnant of an original Gothic castle. It is situated on top of the Radyně Hill, which is the highest peak in the vicinity of Plzeň. The castle was founded by Charles IV. to protect the border and trade paths to Bavaria. Therefore, the original name of Radyně was Karlskrone (Charles?s Crown). After 1521, the castle was abandoned. In the 20th century, the tower of Radyně was restored and converted into a lookout tower. It offers a view over the whole Plzeň basin.
