Ruins of Castle Jestřebí (Českolipsko)

Adresa:

Jestřebí

The castle in Jestřebí was probably built in the end of the 13th century on a high, hardly accessible rock. The family of Berka used to live in the castle and during their stay they founded new villages in the neighbourhood - e.g. Provodín. At the beginning of the 15th century the castle was newly fortified and it was also used as a prison. The last nobleman who lived in the castle was Zikmund of Wartenberk. Then the castle lost its importance and it started to decline. It was used for agricultural purposes and today there is a ruin of the castle, but it is still worth visiting.
