Čertova zeď is a basalt vein protruding from sandstone bedrock. Originally it measured about 20 km and extended from Světlá pod Ještědem almost to Bezděz. Unfortunately, nearly entire body of the rock was extracted and the only remaining continual part is situated near the village Kotel. The wall made of lengthwise-put basalt columns is 20 m long and 8 m high.
